Expansionist desires refer to the ambition or drive of a country, group, or individual to expand their territory, influence, or power beyond their current borders or limits. This can involve seeking to acquire new territories, resources, or markets through conquest, colonization, or other means. Expansionist desires have historically been a driving force behind conflicts and wars as nations compete for control over land and resources. **

Bülow argued for an expansionist foreign policy based on the need for Germany to secure its place as a world power. He believed that Germany's economic and military strength required a corresponding expansion of its influence and territories. Bülow also emphasized the importance of acquiring overseas colonies to provide resources and markets for German industry. Additionally, he saw an expansionist policy as a way to distract from domestic political issues and unite the German population behind a common goal. **

Hitler abused the "Song of the Germans" as a justification for an expansionist war because the song emphasized the idea of a unified German nation and the desire for territorial expansion to achieve this unity. By manipulating the lyrics of the song to fit his own agenda, Hitler was able to rally support for his aggressive expansionist policies under the guise of fulfilling the nationalistic aspirations of the German people. This allowed him to tap into existing sentiments of national pride and historical grievances to justify his aggressive actions on the world stage. **

For example, someone can be honest about their feelings but not sincerely express them, or someone can sincerely express themselves but not be completely honest. **
